Great tarpon fishing this past week on the Eleven Angling Andros Mothership. And the tarpon fishing is good every month of the year, with a little sunshine and 75+ degree water temps. And that happens every month, and gets better as the season progresses. The resident tarpon are 40 to 100- pounds, and contrary to common belief they are not only found in the West Side creeks. They roam the flats on the West side with every tide, and we cast to them in gin clear water. And these Andros tarpon eat, so nothing like Keys tarpon. The takes are aggressive, crashing, thrilling. Once the tarpon sees your fly, it moves in a hurry to suck it in that mammoth mouth. Many takes are like a huge trout taking a dry fly; the tarpon arching up to inhale the fly near the surface. Best fly; a simple cockroach pattern.
And with the Mothership anchorage at the mouth of Miller Creek on the West Side means you are only 5 to 10 minutes away from the closest tarpon flats. No more than 30 minutes run north or south and you have miles and miles of tarpon feeding grounds. No long runs to reach these fish, and you can fish them at sunrise, and until the light fades at the end of the day.
Sound good? Oh, and don't forget the world-class bonefishing for numbers of fish and double digit monsters. If you like fishing for tailing bones, we use SUPs in land-locked lakes only we fish at Eleven to get you shots all day at bones feeding in 2 to 5 inches of water. Wading in the Water Cays is pretty spectacular also.
