We consider March through May as the prime months for bonefishing and pursuing other saltwater gamefish, with December through February good winter fishing, especially for big bones. Those double digit monster bones love the cooler water. And if your focus is tarpon along with the bones and the occasional permit, June and July are good choices also. Then, the fall, October and November, just may be our two favorite overall months....the fish are fresh and back on the flats in big numbers.

Bruce Farrington, this homey waterside lodge offers fantastic DIY and guided bonefishing along the ocean flats of central Andros, all overlooking the tongue of the ocean on a pine-forested peninsula just a short walk from the legendary White Bight. DIY anglers can walk out of their cottage door and fish the “home flats” or alternatively walk or kayak to the White Bight, the surrounding flats, and the tidal creeks. Da Bay Area Bonefish Lodge, Mars Bay, South Andros
Located in secluded Mar's Bay, the southernmost settlement in Andros, on a white sand beach, this lodge is the closest (by a little bit) to the creeks and flats at the southern tip of the island. It’s only a ten-minute boat ride to Dodem Creek, and the northern area of Grassy Creek. This is a true anglers retreat, just relax, enjoy the friendly service and fish until you drop. Comfortable accommodations, hearty meals and cold beers at the Tiki Bar, and of course experienced guides and endless flats and creeks to test your skills against the renowned bonefish of Andros. And being so close to the Tongue of the Ocean, you can also experience off-shore fishing for wahoo, dolphin, tuna, grouper and more.

Founded in 1951 and recently fully refurbished, the ALYC is a full service Yacht Club and Marina offering diesel, gas, electricity, water, ice and bait with 20 air-conditioned Yacht Club and Bungalow rooms; all with private outdoor terraces and either pool & ocean or marina & harbour views. Fun bar for after fishing cocktails and a good seafood restaurant for dinner. This is a popular marina, so slip reservations are a must.

Summer weather patterns are in effect, with prevailing southwest winds. Always carry a lightweight breathable rain jacket and pants in the boat. The jacket also makes an excellent windbreaker on early morning runs.
We strongly recommend wearing lightweight long pants while wading. "Doctor" flies love exposed skin, especially when it's covered with saltwater. They also bite bare feet, so we wear socks in the boat and use insect repellent. Patagonia Baggies, Stio, and Ex Officio pants all dry quickly and provide much better protection than thinner materials.

Tides also vary considerably as you move north or south from Fresh Creek, and strong winds can either push water in or hold it back. Treat tide charts as an excellent guideline rather than an absolute. If you're DIY fishing, take a tide reading when you arrive and adjust your calculations from there. If you're fishing with a guide, relax—they know exactly where they want you at each stage of the tide.

CURRENT FISHING CONDITIONS
Central Andros/The Bights and West Side - Summer fishing patterns are well established. Bonefishing has been good on the incoming morning tides, but as temperatures rise many fish leave the shallow flats by midday and begin mudding in the Bights. Resident tarpon fishing has been excellent, with some of the large migratory fish also showing up. Permit sightings continue to be good, particularly on the West Side.
North Andros - Fishing has been good throughout the Joulters and around Red Bay and Kamalame Cay, with consistent bonefish action in the mornings, and permit on the later stages of the incoming tide in the Joulters.
South Andros - South Andros continues to be one of the best wade fishing destinations anywhere in the Bahamas. The white sand flats make spotting bonefish much easier during cloudy conditions. And our favorite areas now are all the way through the South Bight or out through Honeycutt Creek to the West Side.
Reef/Offshore - Dorado and tuna fishing has been good, with a few blue marlin showing up in the southern Tongue of the Ocean. Reef fishing remains consistently productive for grouper, snapper, sharks, and barracuda.
